Introduction
Minerva Primary Academy at Hillfields, Bristol is a new build school contracted to replace the existing facility in order to fulfil increased pupil capacity from 300 to 420 students.
The building combines a traditional build school hall with a modular construction approach to classrooms and ancillary facilities spread over two storeys. We undertook a pivotal role in providing mechanical and electrical installations catering to this learning environment.
Challenge
The challenge was to provide the mechanical and electrical services to the building whilst also maximising offsite design and installation techniques to minimise disruption to the existing facility which remained a working school during the build. When working on site, programming of deliveries and materials was key to ensure minimal disruption to the live school environment.
Solution
Charleson Building Services provided the mechanical and electrical installations to the new two storey building. The building combined both modular and traditional construction methods housing a multi-use hall, classrooms, administration, hygiene facilities, and circulation space.
The services required to support these spaces included ventilation, via natural ventilation heat recovery units, heating, public health systems, server room cooling, power, lighting, security, data and building management systems.
Result
A modern new school was created with fully commissioned mechanical and electrical solutions to meet the needs of the staff and students in the area.
