We’ve got the small stuff covered…

Some brief examples of small works projects:

  • Ventilation

    Works:

To retrofit stainless steel cooker extraction hoods in food technology classrooms.

    Issue:

The in use application of food technology spaces exceeded the original ventilation design intent. Individual cooker extraction hoods were deemed to be required.

    Solution:

A design for the supply and installation of wall mounted and ceiling suspended cooker extraction hoods to be retrofitted to the food technology classrooms was created by our in house design team. The new stainless steel cooker extraction hoods were procured and fitted whilst maintaining the existing finishes and features of the classroom spaces. Electrical installations included individual local hood controls, a central master on/off switch, and links to the existing GasGuard gas safety monitoring system, as well as the fire alarm system.

The cooker hoods were fully tested, observed, and are now running to meet the design criteria of the spaces with fully satisfied teaching staff and pupils.

  • Water, Heating, Building Works

    Works:

Installation of a new birthing pool and associated works within a maternity ward.

    Issue:

Additional birthing pools were required to satisfy an increase in demand for water birth deliveries in the area.

    Solution:

New updated design drawings were produced for domestic water services, above ground drainage, ventilation and low temperature hot water heating, including new LTHW heater batteries within the ductwork system (with a wall mounted control) to maintain occupancy comfort. Medical gas services and electrical works, including upgraded lighting were also addressed.

Following the strip out and modifications within existing ward areas and the reinstatement of the newly designed systems, all services were inspected, tested and commissioned. This included pre and post-water sampling and localised chlorination of existing water pipework to provide our client with a safe, fully completed, and functioning birthing pool.

  • Heating & Gas

    Works:

To supply and install a new boiler and flue within an existing plantroom.

    Issue:

One of two number existing boilers was aged and no longer viable for repair.

    Solution:

The existing boiler with associated pipework and flue system were isolated, decommissioned and safely removed.

The new boiler was prepared for wall mounting and existing connecting pipework was adapted to suit as required. A new room sealed flue system was installed.

The boiler was fitted and vented with no leaks present before being wired and tested.

The new flue system was checked for integrity and sealed internally and externally to the walls prior to the boiler being commissioned in line with manufacturer’s instructions. The site was cleaned with the removal of all waste materials provided as standard.

A Gas Safe Certificate was provided to a satisfied client.

  • Electrical Lighting

    Works:

To replace existing high level lighting to a reception and atrium areas with new LED lighting and emergency lighting.

    Issue:

Energy efficiency and the reduction of light output from existing lamps.

    Solution:

A survey was undertaken to identify and verify each replacement LED light fitting.

The new works included the use of safe system of works for access equipment and working outside of operating hours to further reduce disruption.

The services included the supply and installation plus testing of 6no. LED high bay fittings, plus 3no. LED high rack emergency fittings (with 3 hour emergency packs). The provided emergency lighting also included certification and warranty.

Our client can now enjoy energy savings along with a new and improved brighter working environment.

  • External Water Services

    Works:

To replace the incoming mains cold water supply to an existing building.

    Issue:

The existing main was damaged and leaking causing waste of water supply.

    Solution:

A site survey was undertaken to identify the leaking main.

The use of a specialist underground boring device was used to install the new 50mm MDPE water pipework and

fittings beneath the existing carpark, avoiding the need to excavate and cause unwanted disruption.

A new 35mm copper pipe was utilised from the point of building entry to connect to the existing water circuits.

Thermally insulated pipework was installed as required.

The final installation was inspected and certified with ground apertures made good. The pits and carpark surface was finished off using cold lay tarmac.

A satisfied client is now enjoying a safe water supply to their building.

  • Auto-flushing mechanism

    Water

    Works:

To retrofit Kemper automatic flushing systems to the cold water pipework in two cleaners rooms.

    Issue:

The cold water temperatures being monitored monthly were constantly too warm and posed a potential health risk.

In addition, the prescribed flushing regime was proving difficult to follow due to the time taken to manually flush the sinks.

    Solution:

Automatic flushing points were installed to cleaners rooms located at ground and first floor level. The works included new cold water pipework connections from existing systems and new waste connections into existing systems.

The installation includes the necessary electrical 230V power supply to the unit.
