Introduction

Following a fire which caused damage to the existing building facilities, the University of St Andrews required temporary laboratory facilities to allow teaching and research practises to continue.

We played an essential role by designing and installing mechanical and electrical services to a new modular building at this prestigious University

Challenge

The programming of deliveries and materials to keep the public and operative’s safety was key on this project due to the ongoing use of the university campus. Rigid organisation and planning would be required to adhere to the construction programme.

Solution

Charleson Building Services provided mechanical and electrical services to support a variety of spaces including teaching laboratories, offices, hygiene areas, equipment rooms, preparation rooms and a large write up room.

The service installations included heating and cooling, ventilation, public health systems, power, lighting, security, data and building management systems.

We began our services installation off-site prior to the module delivery and erection on-site. By splitting the installation in this manner, we could offer time savings against typical on-site installations which had a positive effect on the construction programme.

Result

A vital temporary building was created with integral mechanical and electrical installations that enabled significant teaching and research to continue at the university laboratories.
